Dear Neighbor,
When we idled Manteno Lime in May 2003, we made a public commitment that it would remain offline until its issues could be resolved to the satisfaction of the community, the state of Illinois and Vulcan. After much work and preparation, we now ask for the opportunity to share with you the New Plan for Manteno Lime, a facility adjacent to Manteno Quarry on Illinois 50 that will process limestone mined from our quarry.
The New Plan is a comprehensive, $30 million-plus effort to make the facility a state-of-the-art manufacturing operation. Manteno Lime will serve as a positive economic engine for the local economy by sustaining local jobs, creating new jobs at Manteno Lime and our quarry, and by strengthening Vulcan's commitment to the local community. In brief, the New Plan:
(1) Brings new technology and environmental controls (2) Deploys best-practice operational standards (3) Reduces fuel consumption (4) Continues beautification efforts (5) Sustains and creates new jobs
We built this Web site to serve as the source for information and a place for you to give us feedback. If you like, we can send you email updates on the project.
We are fully committed to keeping you and our neighbors informed as we work together to make Manteno Lime a positive economic engine for the local economy. Thanks for visiting.
Sincerely, Doug Lacke Vice President/General Manager - South Region Vulcan Materials Company Midwest Division
